Glore Museum

Situated in St. Joseph, Missouri the Glore Psychiatric Museum depicts the 130-time history of the State Lunatic Asylum No. 2 and the entire evolution of the treating mental condition. The museum is named for George Glore who did the trick for the Missouri Team of Mental Health for almost all of his 41-calendar year career. A history buff, Glore worked with staff and patients to generate replicas of 16th, 17th and 18th hundred years treatment devices. Medical center officials later encouraged Glore to increase the display into what we should see today.



As the original 1874 building is now used as part of the city's prison, four surfaces of saint joseph post office a far more recent section of the asylum, combined with the once fully operational morgue, now house the museum collection. The collection consists of actual equipment, full size replicas and dioramas. Shows include lobotomy devices, the Steering wheel, a wooden treadmill machine device, and the Tranquilizer Couch created by Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Freedom, and founder of America's oldest working theater.

The museum also contains fine art done by patients over time. The art includes traditional car paint on canvas as well as the more bizarre, such as an design of objects swallowed by a patient.
